Lenovo IdeaPad Y580 goes on sale melding quad-core Ivy Bridge and GeForce GTX 660M

Lenovo IdeaPad Y580 goes on sale melding quadcore Ivy Bridge and GeForce GTX 660M

The Y580 led the avalanche of Lenovo IdeaPads unveiled at CES; its dependence on both Intel Ivy Bridge processors and Kepler-based NVIDIA graphics kept it out of the spotlight for some time, but it's now ready to ship out. The finished 15.6-inch laptop skews very clearly to gamers and other performance mavens. The range starts off with a quad 2.3GHz Core i7, a GeForce GTX 660M and 8GB of RAM. Any heavier outlays of cash upgrade the display resolution, optical drive and storage to as much as a 1080p screen, a Blu-ray combo drive and a 1TB hard drive with a companion 32GB SSD for good measure. None of them will win a contest for sheer portability, but a tight official price spread between $1,299 and $1,549 ($1,039 and $1,239 on sale) guarantees that it won't be hard to get exactly the PC you need to play Spec Ops.

Dell slams the ?shiny? iPad? Despite plans to launch a new ?Duo? monstrosity

When you?re backed into a corner, you lash out wildly. It?s animal instinct, but it?s also a tactic that filters into the world of business every now and then. Case in point? Dell Australia?s managing director has just taken a strange swipe at the iPad. An odd move, given what Dell itself has in store?

In a media briefing in Sydney, Dell?s Joe Kremer was asked about the looming threat coming from Apple?s side of the office. With numbers in January revealing that some 12 per cent of global enterprise users have replaced their laptops with iPads, sureley Dell?s worried?

?People might be attracted to some of these shiny devices but technology departments can?t afford to support them,? said Kremer, defiantly, adding that ?if you are giving a presentation and something fails on the software side it might take four days to get it up and running again.?

Dell Duo review: Nope

Seems odd to us to attack the opposition for its ?shininess?. Dell?s never been up there in terms of pure product desirability, granted, but surely everyone wants their tech to be shiny? Either way, Kremer finished by assuring us that he doesn?t think ?this race has been run yet.?

In that, he?s alluding to what Dell?s got planned for its enterprise customers. It needs to be something better than the Dell Streak tablets which disappeared into obscurity. Sadly, as was revealed at the tail end of last month, it?s another one of these horrid things:

Carrie Underwood Doubles Up At CMT Music Awards

Underwood wins Video of the Year for 'Good Girl' and Collaborative Video.

"American Idol" has struggled to produce hit rock and R&B stars lately, but the show clearly has a knack for pumping out country acts. Just look at the winner's circle for Wednesday night's CMT Music Awards ceremony, where "Idol" winner Carrie Underwood took home two major honors and Scotty McCreery went home with some hardware as well.

Underwood, who also performed on the broadcast hosted by Toby Keith and actress Kristen Bell, snagged her third Video of the Year honor for the "Good Girl" clip, and hit the podium once again for Collaborative Video of the Year for her work on the "Rescue Me" video with Brad Paisley.

Underwood's man, professional hockey player Mike Fisher, played the role of dutiful husband by giving his wife a big hug and kiss when she and Paisley won their award, then held her purse during the acceptance speech. Paisley had some fun, too, wrapping his arms around Fisher before taking the stage and giving him a long hug before thanking, "this beautiful woman for being in the video, or else it's just a dork walking through the desert." He concluded, "to my wife at home, there's nothing between me and Mike," to which Underwood added, "not yet!"

Season 10 "Idol" champ McCreery continued his winning ways by scoring the USA Weekend Breakthrough Video of the Year for "The Trouble With Girls," which he accepted just hours before his high school graduation ceremony.

Other winners included Luke Bryan for Male Video of the Year for "I Don't Want This Night To End," Miranda Lambert for Female Video of the Year for "Over You" and Lady Antebellum for Group Video of the year for "We Owned The Night."

Bryan was clearly excited about his win, saying, "When you're at this level of what we do as singers, and your fans vote, it speaks huge volumes and it's crazy to be fan-voted for an award and win it ... I don't really get caught up in trying to be cool, trying to play a part. I just freaking get so excited about this stuff and I will always enjoy it."

Lambert's acceptance speech was one of the most emotional of the night. Celebrating her third straight Female Video win for the song she co-wrote with husband Blake Shelton about the death of his brother, she thanked Shelton's brother, "from heaven, for inspiring us to write this song." Thompson Square accepted the Duo Video of the Year ("I Got You") and Jason Aldean took home his first belt buckle with CMT Performance of the Year for "Tattoos On This Town."

The show opened with a bang, with a video bit pitting the hosts against each other in a battle to anchor the show alone that featured cameos from Matthew McConaughey, Jon Bon Jovi, President Obama and GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney.

"This is one of the toughest decisions I've had to make since I've been in office, but I decided I want them both," Obama said when forced to decide between the country star and the actress. Not wanting to offend any potential swing voters, Romney split the difference too, suggesting the pair work together. "See, I just put two people back to work," he joked. The show also featured performances from Willie Nelson with Toby Keith, Jamey Johnson, Darius Rucker and Zac Brown Band, as well as Paisley with Hank Williams Jr., Lambert and Journey with Rascal Flatts.

John Mayer Calls Out Taylor Swift For 'Humiliating' Him In 'Dear John'

'It made me feel terrible,' Mayer says about ex Swift's song.

John Mayer has long been known for saying outrageous things about the ladies in his life in interviews. But the man who coined the term "sexual napalm" when talking about ex Jessica Simpson to Playboy magazine, is now complaining that he was seriously upset by something one of his other flings said about him.

Actually, sang. Mayer told Rolling Stone magazine that he was "really humiliated" when he heard Taylor Swift's thinly-veiled dis track "Dear John," which was allegedly written about him. "It made me feel terrible," Mayer said in the upcoming issue of the magazine. "Because I didn't deserve it. I'm pretty good at taking accountability now, and I never did anything to deserve that. It was a really lousy thing for her to do." Swift wrote the song for her 2010 smash Speak Now and as soon as the record dropped, speculation immediately began swirling
about the subject of the tune from the country pop star known for putting references to ex-boyfriends in her music. "Dear John, I see it all, now it was wrong / Don't you think 19 is too young to be played by your dark twisted games, when I loved you so?" she sang on the song. "Dear John/ I see it all now that you're gone," she continued. "Don't you think I was too young/ To be messed with/ The girl in the dress/ Cried the whole way home/ I shouldn't known."

After brief relationships with Joe Jonas and Taylor Lautner, Swift was linked to Mayer in late 2009, though they reportedly split five months before the October 2010 release of Speak Now. Mayer wasn't the only subject Swift tackled on the album, with some fans speculating that "Innocent" was about stage-crasher Kanye West and "Back To December" about Lautner.

A teenage Swift collaborated with the 30-something Mayer
on a tune titled "Half of My Heart,"
which appeared on his 2009 album, Battle Studies, and the two had been rumored to have dated for a short period after they worked on the track.

Mayer told Rolling Stone he learned about Swift's heartbreak only after hearing her song. "I never got an e-mail. I never got a phone call," he said. "I was really caught off-guard, and it really humiliated me at a time when I'd already been dressed down. I mean, how would you feel if, at the lowest you've ever been, someone kicked you even lower?"

While he said he would not even touch the "too young" line, the accomplished blues pop singer said he did have some quibbles with the tune as a musician. "I will say as a songwriter that I think it's kind of cheap songwriting," he said. "I know she's the biggest thing in the world, and I'm not trying to sink anybody's ship, but I think it's abusing your talent to rub your hands together and go, 'Wait till he gets a load of this!' That's bulls---."
