Homeschool Activity: Tall or Small Alphabet Game : Ideas for ...

This is a great game for both preschoolers and kindergarten aged children alike. Since at both ages they are learning the alphabet you will be searching for ways to teach them and keep them interested at the same time. Setting up the game is a breeze. All you need to do is take index cards and write one letter of the alphabet on each. Do this for both the upper and lowercase letters.

To play take and shuffle all the cards or you can fold them in half and put them in a large fish bowl (I do it this way.) Pull out a card and then show it to the children. If it an uppercase letter they need to stand as tall as they can, for a lowercase letter then need to sit as small as they can.? This is perfect for letter recognition.? I call out the letters as I pull them out so they will not only recognize what upper or lowercase but also what the letter itself is.

Once they know their letters you can pull it out and have them call out the letter as you show it to them. This game can easily be adapted for all sorts of other things. We have put action words on there such as spin and when the word is pulled out they have to perform the action. This adaption works best when one child at a time pulls their own card and performs the action.
