If you were hosting a book club, what number one rule would you impose?
That people actually read the book, otherwise it?s not a book club but a drinks party. I love a drinks party, but I love a drinks party spent discussing books even more.
Who are your three dream book club guests?
I?m currently obsessed with the brilliance of Jess Walter (everybody should read Beautiful Ruins right now), so definitely him. If I?m allowed dead people, then Nancy Mitford and Georges Simenon. If I?m not, then Jennifer Egan and Kate Atkinson.
What?s your favourite cheese, and do you prefer it at the end of the meal (like Clara) or as a standalone 
course?
I find it almost impossible to name a favourite cheese; it?s very rare for me to come across a cheese that I don?t like. Cheese is the food of the gods. I suppose that if I had a gun to my head I?d pick a very ripe Vacherin, eaten with a spoon.
What?s the key factor when deciding between a night in at home with a book/cheese/wine and going out to meet friends at the Connaught?
Comfort. There is nothing I like more than a night in at home with a book/cheese/wine, with my partner on another sofa also reading his book. But I suppose it?s quite a wintry pursuit, or at least a rainy one. I also like reading on the beach, but the cheese/wine thing becomes difficult, due to sand. The ideal scenario, if you can be bothered to get out of your onesie, would be reading in the bar at the Connaught, with cheese-based snacks and Martinis.
